Time Management

Time management is an important organisational skill for everyone in the working world, no matter what occupation. Time management is important for the course so it's good practice to do it now rather than when I am in the working world. Being a graphic designer can be a lot of pressure because clients are relying on you to solve problems and come out with an effective outcome that the client likes. It also requires a lot of travelling and communication with clients so I will need to be able to learn how to manage design work, client communication, travel and also hobbies and GENERAL LIFE.

The course is a lot more work than I originally expected, however I am still able to keep up with the work because I attend uni as much as I can and often stay behind to complete work before I go home. I find this really beneficial because my ideas are still fresh in my mind and I don't leave until I have reached a point in my development that's appropriate for me to stop working. This reduces the risk of me forgetting to do the work and forgetting concepts. However, I often think of concepts that require facilities such as the print studio and photography suite but I don't have the time/knowledge about the colleges resources to complete the outcome.

Fitting in social and extracurricular activities such as gigs, gallery visits and film is vital because it provides me with the opportunity to get inspired and cultured which will ultimately feed into my design and benefit it. A lot of my interests and hobbies can be related to graphic design because they provide me with visual information to work from. Experiences such as travelling broadens the amount culture I see. I will try to fit this in during the evenings and weekends so that it doesn't interfere with my work load.

Using a calendar or diary is really useful, especially the calendar on eStudio because it gives me the opportunity to plan ahead. The Google Calendar app is really useful for linking my own plans with uni.

I struggle with deciding and keeping up to date with all of the briefs that we have at the same time. To overcome this I write out a list of all the work that I have to do:

This reminds me of all the work I need to do and I gain satisfaction by crossing points off the list once they're complete. Writing the points down allowed me to edit my notes if I forget to add a point. The problem with this technique is that the points aren't in order so I have to spend time going through my work, making sure I don't skip a step. To overcome this I can download one of many apps that help with time management and organisation.
