Chat with Andy Gray

To help develop an informed outcome for my responsive Monotype brief, I visited Vernon Street Library in search for 'Type in Action'. On arrival I got talking to Andy Grey, an artist librarian, and owner of the book store Colour May Vary which I went to for the launch of Nest Magazine.

Although the book had been misplaced, Grey showed me some alternative suggestions of the same genre. He showed me a Unit Editions publication which he thought would be useful and said that they have an older edition of the book at Colours May Vary and I should come take a look.

Suggested books:
  • Crosby/Fletcher/Forbes - A Sign Systems Manual
  • Logotype - Michael Evamy
  • Sign Painters - Faythe Levine and Sam Macon (Foreword by Ed Ruscha)
I explained the D&AD project and my street market concept which he thought was really interesting. I found just talking about the brief and my concepts really beneficial for making it clear for me.
