Print Fair @ The Hepworth

Managed to speak to Andy from Colours May Vary as well as discovering printers such as Marko. I find the use of shape and colour really inspiring and as a designer I look for ways type can be added which excites me as a creative.

It was inspiring to see art and design for a contemporary and cultural context as the creativity was so diverse.

Grayson Perry

Had the opportunity to see some of Grayson Perry's artwork which was really inspiring. I was aware of the work from watching Channel Four's 'Grayson Perry: All Man' where Grayson Perry visits ultra-male worlds to explore how contemporary masculinity shapes the lives and expectations of men in Britain today, while reflecting on his own identity and prejudices

I thought the documentary was really influential as it touched on topics that are avoided such as male suicide and the pressures to be tough and manly. The composition below is taken from the fourth episode about bankers:

The piece has been cut from wood and printed.

Clare Cutts Woodcutts

Spike Print Studio
Bristol

Got talking to Clare because I was intrigued by how she has managed to create such a unique effect using the screen printing process. She explained that it is layers of white and cream emulsion on black paper. The compositions also change depending on the angle it is looked at.

It became apparent that she was from Bristol and works as part of Spike Print Studio.

I intend to visit Spike Studio in Bristol
