Dark Room Photography

In order to take advantage of the world class facilities LCA offers, I booked myself and a group of peers into a film photography and dark room induction. Having previous experience from college, I am keen to refresh my knowledge and explore this traditional medium in order to introduce it into my design work. I have been inspired by analogue processes such as film photography because of its basic nature and adaptable processes which I find easier to work with compared to digital. Working with my hands has always been a passion of mine and I feel more in control of the creative process and decision making.

The tutorial was extremely thorough, starting with an introduction into SLR cameras, loading film, developing and finally printing. There was a lot of technical information to take in however I feel confident in using the facilities independently in the future. The staff were also really keen to help and encouraged us to come back and use the facilities more.

Developing the film is an important yet time consuming process which takes accurate measurements of time, liquids and temperature in order to successfully develop the film.

I am excited to introduce this method into my practice, however I need to find a project to which the process compliments the outcome, rather than simply doing it for the sake of it.
